Our work at Marin Sanitary Service has shown us firsthand how critical it is to educate our communities about sustainability. The Sustainable Healthy Earth Act is an incredible opportunity to instill these values in our children, empowering them to become the next generation of environmental stewards. I wholeheartedly support this initiative and urge others to join us in making California a leader in environmental education.

This was the first full Earth photograph and the first view of the south polar ice cap. Almost the entire coastline of Africa is visible, along with the Arabian Peninsula. Virtually every picture showing the full Earth is derived from this one photograph. Television, newspapers, websites, and marketing material have all used this photograph over the years.
The Apollo 17 spacecraft was launched from the Kennedy Space Center at midnight on December 7th, 1972. Just hours after lift-off, the command module aligned with the Earth and Sun, allowing the crew to photograph Earth in full light. The photo was taken at about 18,000 statute miles away from Earth.
Apollo 17 was the sixth and last manned lunar landing mission in the Apollo series with Eugene A. Cernan, Ronald E. Evans, and Harrison H. (Jack) Schmitt
This is the last picture of our planet taken by a human being from space.
As the founder of Roots of Peace, I have witnessed firsthand the transformative power of education in healing and sustaining our planet. The Sustainable Healthy Earth Act is more than just a policy, it’s a pivotal movement that aligns perfectly with the mission we’ve championed for decades. By integrating sustainability education into every child’s learning journey, SHEA ensures that future generations will not only inherit the Earth but will be equipped to protect and nurture it.
I wholeheartedly support this initiative because it speaks to the very core of what we stand for at Roots of Peace, creating a world where education fosters peace and sustainability. I encourage all who believe in the power of knowledge and the responsibility we have to our planet to join me in backing SHEA. Together, we can plant the seeds for a healthier, more sustainable future.
From the heart of Marin County, birthplace of the United Nations beneath the towering Redwood trees of Muir woods on May 19th, 1945, I proudly support this innovative program born in the same County of Marin. Marin County represents the spirit of innovation from the birthplace of the U.N. to the recycling model of Marin Sanitary Service to the worldwide charity of Roots of Peace, SHEA carries forth this innovative spirit for an educator.

The Sustainable Healthy Earth Act initiative stands as a symbol of hope and a pragmatic step forward. This initiative, specifically targeting the educational sphere, mandates 30 hours of Earth sustainability training for public school students every two years. It is not merely an educational reform but a profound shift towards embedding environmental stewardship and sustainable practices into the fabric of our society from an early age.
